So my first soccer game of the summer was Tuesday night and after months of playing indoor on the turf I was pretty excited to enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and the sweet smell of grass. But, oh wait, this is Alaska where outdoor soccer means 50 degrees, rain, muddy fields and lots and lots of mosquitoes. Also, every year I somehow manage to forget how 90 minutes is way longer than 50 minutes and good grief how did the field get so big? But truly, I’m not complaining. It was awesome! I really think the sense of accomplishment is that much greater when I’m not only covered in sweat but rain and mud. Honestly though, I could totally make do without the bugs.
Here’s to enjoying summer activities in all of their glory no matter the weather. Especially since I’m doing it all again tonight.
